Obesity affects Fertility

According to research Obesity is increasing among adult American women. About 34% of them are fighting with obesity. Researchers say there are various constant circumstances linked with obesity such as heart disease, diabetes, strokes. In addition to recent research, obesity relates with infertility among women and men.

Obesity can be defined as a person whose body mass index (BMI) is 30 or higher. If a person’s BMI is between 25 to 29.9, then he is considered to be overweight. There is a difference between obesity and overweight. Research revels about 10% cause of infertility is because of obesity.

The major affect of obesity in women is hormonal imbalance which causes infertility. The production of excess fat cell manufactures plenty of hormone estrogen. Too much of estrogen in women works in similar manner as if it were on birth control pills. It results in the egg not being released. This situation may give rise to some medical condition known as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Due to hormonal imbalance ovulation cycle is also affected, sometime is does not exist. This kind of disorder is known as PCOS. Usually women gain weight during pregnancy however risk occurs if she is overweight before pregnancy. Therefore for a normal pregnancy a woman should have normal body weight.

Not to surprise these problems are also found in men. Obesity is related to low testosterone level in men which causes infertility. According to past studies it is found, obesity also leads to erectile dysfunction and diminished libido. This concludes obesity can cause to higher medical condition in men which lead to infertility.

Research has proved obesity affects fertility and controlling weight is important. This will help both men and women to have healthy children. Keeping good health and regular exercise will ensure both to become healthy parents and blessed with healthy baby.
